Abstract | This study examines the causal effects of traditional UAE exports on economic growth from 1981 to 2012, using a neoclassical production function augmented with fuel-mining exports and imports of goods and services. The Johansen cointegration test is applied to assess long-run relationships, and the Granger causality test within a vector error correction model examines short-run causality. A modified Wald test in an augmented vector autoregressive model (Toda and Yamamoto, 1995) is also used to test for long-run causality. The analysis confirms a long-run relationship, with fuel-mining exports having a negative impact on growth. Fuel-mining exports do not cause economic growth in the short-run or long-run. |
